HAURAKI COROMANDEL LABOUR MARKET FORUM |
|
Members of the Hauraki Coromandel Labour Market Forum have developed a new strategic plan for the Hauraki Coromandel region 2010-2013. This document raises opportunities and awareness to address labour market issues and includes a range of statistics and information about our people and our environment, where we live, work and play. It highlights issues relating to housing, transport, employmen, business, industry and education. You can read the history and updates as well as download the full document and executive summary by clicking on "Labour Market Strategy" . The final document will be available in August 2010 and a public forum is scheduled for September 2010 to present this strategy.

For most of the year the population of the
Thames-Coromandel District is around 26,000 people. However, the Peninsula is
such a popular holiday destination over the Christmas and New Year period that
the District experiences a large influx of visitors, holiday home owners and
their friends and family. This causes the population to swell dramatically to
well over the usually resident population. This is known as a 'peak'
population. The Thames-Coromandel District Council (TCDC) undertakes peak
population studies so that information is available to monitor the impact that
the summer population has on existing and future infrastructure and services
including water, sewerage, roads and parks and reserves. This helps the
Council to plan and make informed decisions regarding the services it provides.
The most recent TCDC peak population study
for the 2009/10 Christmas and New Year period is now completed. You
can download a copy of the 2009/10 full study report, as well
as previous peak population studies here:

As a result of the Prime Ministers Summit in 2009, the Walkway & Cycleway Projects were proposed and 7 cycleway projects were selected as"Quick Start" projects, the Hauraki Cycleway Project was one of these.
The Hauraki District Council is now managing the proposed Hauraki Cycleway Project which will run from Kaiaua to Thames, onto Paeroa and then to Waihi. A spur line to Te Aroha is also on the plan. Initial costings for the project have been completed and funding for the project will be a combination of Central & Local Government and private enterprise sponsorship. The project will commence in 2010 and will be completed in stages as funding permits. The Cycleway is 76km long and between Thames and Waihi follows the disused rail corridor. www.tourism.govt.nz/Our-Work/New-Zealand-Cycle-Trail-Project/
